Maine is the only place on the North American continent where the trapping of bear is still legal. Our bear trapping experience consists of 2 bait sites to trap off and a cabin to stay in. Trappers must provide their own transportation and trapping supplies. We trap off baits that have already been hunted over, where the bear is too smart for a hunter. This usually is a larger, older bear that has learned that he is safe only if he comes to feed after dark. We have had success with both leg hold traps and cable snares.
